MY FIRST MONTH IN THE NETHERLAND

This day is almost a month I have been living here. But, it still cannot be forgotten how funny in the first travel to be here. I remembered that I came in the plane; I had already waited this flight about 2 hours. I did not fully pay attention on the flight schedule, for I was sleepy during the travel. This flight had been taking for about 8 hours. After that, stewardess said that we would land in a few minutes later, thus I was impatient to see Holland. I said, “Oh, finally, I will step my foot for the first time in Holland”. Without waste of time, I left the plane in a hurry and get near the amazing building of airport. So, I was busy to take pictures on airport and I was also singing,”oh Holland, here I am, oh Holland I love you”. But, I did not realize that people were confusedly looking at me. So, one of them asked me,”hey, who is Holland?” And I said, “Holland is this country”. Shockingly, that people then said,”hey,you are totally wrong, you have not been in Holland, look!”, while that people show nameplate of the airport to me and said,”we are still on Tegel International Airport in Berlin. The flight transit here, and before go to Holland”. I became ashamed and embarrassed, and I stopped my activity quickly. So, I went to search room for transited passengers. Despite be ashamed, I had already had pictures of view in here.

STORY IN MY ENGLISH LEARNING

To start this story I will mention several reasons why I have to learn English. First, English is international language, so we will be able to communicate with other people from different countries. Second, most updated information is provided in English, of course including my field of study. Third, English ability is one of requirements to award scholarship. The last, by knowing English well I could give some results of research verbally or in writing, so other people could be received that information.

So far I have done some efforts to enhance English proficiency. There activities of my effort are : join English course, try to speak English with people who can speak English, write some lecture materials in English, listen to English radio, and watch movies which use English. I fully realized that those are very effective for me.

During the activities, I have obtained a lot of benefit since I began my efforts. Now, I could understand when I read English text books or someone speak in English. Beside those, I am also able to write and speak in English despite still not fluently. At least I know that what I did is have increased my English proficiency.

To my mind, I do not feel that all of that are enough. I would still do the efforts to boost my English ability, for it would enable me to support my jobs. Another thing that I would do is sharing of my materials with student, of course in English. In that way, I still learn English indirectly.

In the end, I would like to say conclusively that “no English” means “no information”.
